A child, a vulnerable person, or an animal locked inside is a 911 call

Do not wait for a roadside truck. Call 911 straight away. The same applies to any situation where someone inside the vehicle is at immediate risk, including a hot or freezing day. Emergency services can get in faster and are equipped for exactly this.

What vehicle lockout assistance covers

One narrow situation: the keys are inside a locked vehicle, the vehicle is otherwise in working order, and you are the person entitled to be in it.

How it usually happens

Almost never dramatically. Keys set down on the passenger seat while loading groceries. A fob left in a coat on the back seat. A car that locks itself seconds after the doors close. The most common version here is a vehicle left running to warm up in winter, locked out of habit with the key inside.

What these have in common is that nothing is broken. The vehicle is fine; access is the only problem. That is what a car lockout service is for, and why it differs from needing a locksmith.

Confirming you are entitled to the vehicle

Opening a locked vehicle for the wrong person is not a small mistake. The operator may ask you to confirm that you own the vehicle or are authorized to use it before assistance is provided.

If that cannot be established at the scene, the operator will not open the vehicle. That protects you as the owner just as much as anyone else.

Before help arrives

  • Check every door and the trunk — it works more often than you would think.
  • Work out whether a spare key is reachable. If someone can bring one soon, that is the simplest solution.
  • Be ready to confirm that the vehicle is yours or that you are authorized to use it.
  • Note exactly where the key is sitting: driver's seat, console, trunk, or a pocket inside a bag.
  • If the engine is running, say so when you call, especially in a garage or any enclosed space.
  • Wait somewhere safe and well lit, away from traffic.

How the call works

  1. Call and describe it

Call 403-690-2727 with the vehicle's make, model, and year, where it is parked, and where the key is.

  2. We check it is a lockout, not a locksmith job

A lost key, a broken key, or a failed lock mechanism is a different problem, and we will say so on the phone rather than after a wasted trip.

  3. Authorisation

The operator may ask you to confirm the vehicle is yours or that you are authorized to use it.

  4. The attempt

Entry is attempted with the aim of avoiding damage to the door, seals, glass, and locking mechanism.

  5. If it cannot be opened

You get a straight answer and the alternatives: an automotive locksmith, the dealership, or a tow.

What we do not do

  • No locksmith services of any kind.
  • No key cutting.
  • No key, fob, or transponder programming.
  • No extraction of a broken key from a door lock or ignition.
  • No repairs to a damaged or failed lock mechanism.
  • No guarantee that any given vehicle can be opened — some designs resist roadside entry by intent.
  • No entry where the operator cannot establish that you are entitled to the vehicle.
  • No entry where doing so would clearly damage the vehicle. A tow is the better outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be asked to confirm the vehicle is mine?

The operator may ask you to confirm that you own the vehicle or are authorized to use it before assistance is provided. That is the line between a lockout service and helping someone into a vehicle that is not theirs.

Can you cut a new key or program a fob?

No. We are not locksmiths. Key cutting, key programming, transponder and fob coding, and extracting a broken key from a lock or ignition are all locksmith or dealership work, and we do not offer any of them. Our vehicle lockout service covers one situation: keys shut inside a vehicle that is otherwise fine.

A child or a pet is locked inside. What do I do?

Call 911 immediately. Do not wait for a roadside operator. A vehicle interior heats up or cools down far faster than most people expect, and emergency services are equipped and authorised to get in straight away. This is the one lockout situation where calling us first is the wrong move.

Can every vehicle be opened?

No, and we will not claim otherwise. It depends on the vehicle's make, model, year, and locking design, along with its condition and the conditions at the scene. Some modern security systems are built to resist roadside entry. When a vehicle cannot be opened safely, the honest answer is a locksmith, a dealership, or a tow — not forcing it.

My key is locked in the trunk. Is that different?

It can be. A key sealed in a trunk with no fold-down rear seats or interior release is harder than one on the driver's seat. A locked vehicle with the engine running adds urgency, particularly in an enclosed space. Say where the key is when you call.
